Studies show thatprenatal perineal massage during the final month (starting at 35 weeks) of pregnancy helps prevent tears, episiotomies, or abrasions during childbirth and reduces postpartum discomfort.

This stretching technique optimally prepares the perineum and the final part of the birth canal for the baby’s passage.

Did you know that perineal massage...

1.has asignificant effect on preventing vaginal and vulvar trauma during childbirth (tears or episiotomy)

The technology

For this massage, it’s important to adopt a relaxed posture and make sure your pelvic floor is relaxed. So just lie down and relax.

1. thepreparation

• Clean hands and preferably short nails
• arelaxed atmosphere
• acomfortable position with your legs apart and knees bent (using pillows, in the shower, in the bath, etc.)
• asafe, unscented oil
a mirror, ifdesired

2. the massage

• Apply the peri oil spray to the perineum and the lower third of the vagina.
• Insert your thumb about 2.5 to 4 cm into the back wall of the vagina. Press down toward the anus and to both sides. Hold for 1 to 2 minutes.

• Massagethe vagina by moving your thumbs upward and sideways in a U-shape. Try to relax the perineum as much as possible while doing this. Repeat two to three times.

A stretching sensation is normal during the massage. However, it should not feel painful.

You can wipe off the excess oil, but be sure to let some of it soak in so that your skin is properly nourished. This helps improve your skin’s elasticity.

In the final weeks of your pregnancy, that little belly can sometimes get in the way, of course. If you find it too tiring or have trouble getting into the right position, ask your partner for help.

The peri oil spray from shinncare be used both before and after childbirth.
